Linocutting and Printing – Why do I love it?

Welcome back. This is my second entry into my blog. I’ve been messing with wordpress and I think I sort of have a handle on it now. I’ve got a sign up page for email updates that I think is working and links to my social media. All fairly standard. I’ve been making a new print today of a rhino and am halfway through carving it. It’s based on a rhino at Woburn Safari Park that we got closer to than I would like. I’ll share it when I’ve finished it.

Why linocut prints? I’m not really sure. I have a lot of fatigue these days and it ought to make it worse but the process of carving out a picture seems to be quite cathartic and the low level concentration seems help. Also there’s the satisfaction of seeing the carved image and then the final prints. I’ve sold a few which is gratifying and given some to friends. I think what I like most is the certainty, there’s either colour there or there isn’t. There’s no half colours, you get beautiful monocolour prints. There are ways of making multiple colours in one image but these are more complex. Below are some of my early prints. It’s good to love lino printing.
